Adult General Education

Adult General EducationThe mission of the Adult General Education (AGE) Program is to provide instruction in the basic skills of reading, writing, and mathematics to adult learners in order to prepare them for transition into the labor market or higher academic or vocational training.
The Adult General Education program is designed to provide adults with sufficient basic education to enable them to benefit from job training and retraining programs, and to obtain and retain productive employment. A student must demonstrate proficiency in 100% of the basic academic standards to earn a literacy completion point (LCP). This program is divided into Literacy Completion Points (LCP). An LCP is the attainment of academic or workforce readiness skills that qualify the participant for further basic education, vocational education or employment.

Adult General Education (AGE) activities may include some or all of the following:

  • Instruction in the basic skills of reading, writing, and mathematics
  • Instruction in preparation for the GED® test
  • Basic skills study through preparation for citizenship testing
  • English Literacy (English as a Second Language) and English Literacy/Civics
  • Workplace Literacy
