The Adult High School (AHS) program allows an adult who is no longer enrolled in public high school to complete the required courses and state assessments to earn a standard high school diploma.

To enroll in the Adult High School program, students must be 16 years of age or older and be officially withdrawn from the K-12 school system. This program is offered online, however, students are required to attend one face-face virtual class meeting per week.

Program of Study and Standards

Unless otherwise specified by law, adult students must meet the same graduation requirements as traditional secondary students to earn a standard adult education diploma. This includes:

• Successfully completing either 24 credits under the standard diploma track or
• 18 credits through the Academically Challenging Curriculum to Enhance Learning (ACCEL) option.
• Maintaining a minimum GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.
• Passing all required statewide standardized assessments, or earning concordant or comparative scores in the respective subject areas, as outlined by the State of Florida.

These requirements ensure that adult learners graduate with the same academic rigor and recognition as their traditional high school counterparts.

In accordance with federal and state legislation, accommodations must be provided to ensure equal access for students with disabilities. Adult students are responsible for self-identifying and requesting these services. Accommodations may be necessary in areas such as instructional methods and materials, assignments and assessments, time management and scheduling, learning environments, assistive technology, and specialized communication systems.

Outcomes

Students successfully completing all course requirements and state-mandated assessments will earn an Adult Standard High School diploma.
